Rotation

Measurements
7'3"  236 lbs  7'8" wingspan  19 years old
Projectable Skills
  • Height/Length - Listed at 7'3" 236 lbs, extremely tall/long (7'8" wingspan), will be one of the taller players in the NBA from day one.
  • Shooting - Smooth stroke, unexpected from a player his size, NBA range, can pull-up off the dribble, can make shots from a variety of spots on the court.
  • Offensive versatility - Can stretch the floor or use his length/soft touch inside. P/R or P/Pop big, initiates the fast break, improving ISO/face-up game. High offensive ceiling.
  • Rim protection - Averaged 2.7 blks/game, plays tall, solid timing, able to shift his feet. Tough defender to navigate around.
  • Fluidity - Moves like a wing in the open court, solid top end speed, coordinated, can change direction well for a player his size.
  • Defensive upside - Has the defensive tools to be an overall plus defender. Showed glimpses of sliding his feet/locking down in his defensive stance. Impressive when motor is running hot.
  • Production - Put up 21 pts & 9.6 rebs/game during his short stint (9 games) at Oregon, impressive 37.5 PER and 29.0 DRB%. Shot 56.1% from the field and 52.0% from deep (2.8 attempts/game).
Improvement Areas
  • Strength - Extremely slender upper/lower body, struggles to hold position in the post, projects to be targeted by physical bigs. Tends to shy from contact offensively/defensively, could play with more of an edge. Needs to add what functional strength he can, will always be slender.
  • Motor - Has been a concern throughout his career, effort level/care factor tends to come and go, up to him to maximize his potential. Tends to fall asleep on plays on defense or make careless plays on offense. Will need to show more consistent intensity on/off the court in order to merit playing time, has boom/bust potential.
  • Injury - Navicular fracture in left foot which required corrective surgery. Something today's bigs can heal from, but is a potential red flag to be aware of when drafting him.
  • Turnovers - Posted a -1 AST:TO ratio, needs to swing the ball, tunnel vision when attacking, could look to share the ball more out of the post, can be somewhat of a black hole (ball sticks).
Potential Questions/Concerns
How much oversight/motivation will he need in order to develop properly?
Will the foot injury resurface in some form/fashion?
What's his floor?
Write Up
Bol Bol is a very unique talent who should be a top 10 lock in this years draft, but finds himself somewhat all over the board. While he has the physical tools/skill-set to blossom in today's NBA, his inconsistent motor and work ethic leave a lot to be desired. At 7'3" with a 7'8" wingspan and the ability to shoot comfortably from NBA range he projects to bring coveted skills to whichever team drafts him. Aside from some of the top tier talent (Williamson, Morant, Barrett, etc.), Bol perhaps has the highest ceiling in the entire draft, but it's his mental approach which looks to be the roof. Overall, it would be most beneficial for Bol to be drafted to a team with a strong veteran presence/culture in place in order to relieve early career production pressure and help show him the ropes.
