Strengths
Chinanu Onuaku was a very solid big man for Louisville, and has all the tools to be a solid big man in the NBA. He has great strength and length, and while he plays more like a C, he can also play some PF. He is a good athlete who is not the most explosive, but can run the floor well and get up to block shots or grab offensive rebounds. He has improved a lot since his freshman year. His post game has improved, it's still limited, but he has made strides with his footwork, touch, and quickness. He has a good motor, and that combined with his strength/length makes him a good rebounder and defender. He is a good rim protector and has shown improvement on his lateral quickness. He shows the ability to pass the ball from the post, at times he may get too flashy, but even so, it's impressive. He has also shown the ability to hit the mid range shot this season. It still needs a lot of work and practice, but it's a positive sign that he has taken and made some mid range shots. Onuaku is still a fairly raw player and will need to continue working on fundamentals. He is a bad free throw shooter, while he improved when he switched over to the granny shot technique, it's still something that is a weakness. If he is going to play more C in the NBA then his height is going to be an issue. Lastly, he turns the ball over too much. This is due to his shaky hands, decision making, and somewhat raw post game. He will need to be more efficient with the ball in the NBA. Overall Onuaku shows good role player potential, and his strength, length, and size will allow him to play both PF and C.
