Write Up
Collin Sexton posted a great freshman season as he not only led Alabama to the NCAA tournament, but also defeated Virginia Tech in the 1st round. He showed why he was considered a top PG in this class as he is a relentless competitor, can score from a variety of places, and has the physical/athletic tools to be a lock down defender. It's tough to bet against Collin Sexton, few players have his level of work ethic and intensity. Combine that with his physical gifts and you have a player who could be special. Athletically, Sexton is good in a variety of ways, but especially excels in the open court. He has a fast top end speed and can get in transition and finish in a hurry. He has good burst off his 1st step and can take advantage of switches with his quickness. Sexton also displays good body control attacking the basket and when stopping on a dime for pull-ups. He led Alabama in scoring this season with an average of 19.2 pts per game, he has solid shot diversity in ISO situations and is comfortable on pull-ups, runners, 3 pointers, and in transition.
He has a tight handle and strong frame,
which allows him to get to his spots and power through contact. Defensively, Sexton has all the tools and mentality to be a lock down defender, he has quick feet/hands and has the mentality/strength to defend multiple positions.

While Sexton has definitive strengths and it's tough to bet against him, he also has some weaknesses that must be understood when drafting him to be your starting PG for the next 2-3 years. He displayed good scoring instincts, but could improve his shooting consistency from deep (does he have NBA range?) and his offensive versatility off the ball. He is a dangerous ISO and P/R player, but is still figuring out how to take advantage of his gifts off the ball. He struggles on set shots, off screens/curls, and rarely took advantage of smaller mis-matches in the post. He has the size to play off the ball, but is at his best initiating the offense. While Sexton is a good athlete he lacks elite level quickness and tends to struggle getting by quicker/longer defenders off the bounce. He'll need to add some counter moves as he tends to be neutralized and needs to reset if his initial move is stopped. Sexton also lacks elite level explosiveness/verticality when attempting to finish in traffic and will likely struggle finishing against NBA level length/athleticism in the paint. He is fairly explosive in space or with a head of steam, but has shown enough signs of not being able to elevate over the top for it to be a concern at the next level. From a creating/generating offense standpoint, Sexton needs to improve his AST:TO ratio if he wants to captain an efficient offense in the NBA.  He is a capable passer, but struggles to make more complex passes within the half court. Lastly, Sexton could improve his defensive effort/consistency, he is an overall average defender according to Synergy, which shouldn't be the case with his physical tools. Overall, Sexton is a beast and is someone who will maximize his talent at the next level, but how much he can iron out some of his weaknesses remains to be seen.
