De'Anthony Melton is an interesting prospect who could have used another year of college to refine his game and boost his draft stock (in theory), but was part a group of college players who were restricted from playing this past season due to an FBI investigation. Melton is a 6'3.25" combo guard who projects to be an athletic, high motor, defensive pest type of player in the pros. He is a fairly good athlete and has the quickness/explosiveness to get to the hoop and finish. Offensively, Melton is fairly raw and will need to continue adding shot diversity and consistency. His shot mechanics need refining as he tends to either shoot on the way down or to the side of his head, both of which produce inconsistent results (shot 28.4% from deep his freshman season). Melton is a capable passer and averaged a respectable 3.5 asts, but he needs to work on his touch, decision making, and timing in order to cut down on turnovers (1.8 per game). Overall, Melton is somewhat of a mystery, which likely helps his draft stock, while he has some key traits you want in an energy combo guard there are many aspects of his game that are not currently NBA ready, which could make him a potential buy low prospect in the late 1st round.
