Edmond Sumner entered the season with an increased role and with the potential to be a mid to late first round pick. He was playing well throughout the season, but unfortunately tore his ACL which sidelined him for the year. Sumner is a good athlete and relies heavily on his quickness and leaping ability. He has the size and creating ability to play both the PG and SG spots, but seems to be more of a natural SG. He has a solid wingspan and high motor which gives him the potential to be a lock down defender at the next level. He's plays hard and isn't afraid of contact, he averaged nearly 8 FTA/per 40 mins, his FT rate in the pros won't be that high early on, but his aggressiveness is a skill that puts pressure on defenses. Sumner is still somewhat raw as a prospect, aside from the injury concerns, he needs to improve on his shooting ability and PG polish. Similarly to most hyper athletic combo guards, he stuck to his strengths which was getting to the basket, while he'll still be able to do some of that in that in the pros, he'll need to improve his jumper if he wants to become more of an offensive threat. Overall Sumner is a first round talent that will likely slip into the second round and a team that has the ability to take their time with the rehab process will get a good player at a low cost.
