Gary Payton II
Measurements
6'3" 190 lbs 6'6.5" wingspan 23 years old
Pro comparison
Less skilled and quick Eric Bledsoe
Strengths
Gary Payton II is an intriguing prospect who transferred to Oregon State after a few years at Salt Lake Community College. He is very athletic and can jump out of the gym. He is strong and will use it to finish after contact or post up smaller defenders. He shows the ability to shoot, but will need to work more on his consistency. He hustles and will get steals that lead to easy baskets and he is also a very good rebounder for his size and position. Payton is limited offensively by his sub par dribbling and quickness. His pull-up shot is slow and he doesn't get enough separation from his defender to get it off clean. He plays more like a SG and it will take a lot of work and practice if he wants to play PG in the NBA. This is what makes his height more of an issue. Lastly, Payton II is 23 years old and is still a fairly raw player. Overall Payton II will need to make defense his calling card in the NBA if he wants to be in the league a long time.
