Jake Layman
Measurements
6'9" 220 lbs 7'0" wingspan 22 years old
Pro comparison
Similar player to Omri Casspi, Jeff Green, and Chandler Parsons
Strengths
Jake Layman is a great athlete, maybe one of the best in this class. He uses his athleticism to run the floor, dunk it over people, and get highlight blocks. He is a good spot up shooter from 3pt range and definitely has the potential to become a 3 and D player in the NBA. He has good coordination, size, and length, and should be able to play some SF or PF in the NBA. Layman is a player who fans at Maryland have wanted to break out, but never quite did it. He has the occasional great game, but then it's followed by games where he is mediocre. He has tremendous tools, but he lacks consistency and assertiveness. His offensive game is limited to slashing, dunks, and spot up shots. He has a tough time creating his own shot and is still right hand dominant when driving to the hoop. Lastly, Layman needs to become tougher as he will get out-muscled in post up situations or when going for rebounds. If he wants to hang with stronger NBA players he is going to need to add muscle and grit. Overall Layman's athleticism, size, and length will make him marketable for teams looking for a SF/PF type of player late in the draft.
