Strengths
Malachi Richardson is unexpectedly staying in the draft and is projected to go somewhere in the late first or early-mid second round. He is an older player for being a freshman (20 years old). He had a productive year for Syracuse and really came on in the NCAA tournament. He is a good shooter and can pull-up very fast and has a quick release. He can shoot from just about anywhere on the court and does well in spot up and pull-up situations. He can handle the ball well and can create his own shot fairly consistently. He is long and strong which allows him to finish in the paint and grab rebounds at a good rate. He has all of the tools to be a good defender in the NBA, and while he averaged 1.2 steals, there is still room for improvement on that end. Richardson is an OK athlete, it may or may not hurt him in the NBA, but it does limit his ability to finish and get past quicker defenders. He needs to work on his decision making, shooting consistency, and overall polish. He tends to be a streaky shooter and will force the issue multiple times a game. If he wants to increase his productivity in the NBA he will need to become a smarter and more consistent player. Overall Richardson is a good talent who has good NBA level skills and may prove to be a steal of a pick later in the draft.
