Write Up
Malik Newman was a top rated High School recruit who decided to stay close to home and attend Mississippi State (has since transferred to Kansas). He is very talented and athletic. He has a very quick 1st step and is fairly comfortable handling the ball, combine that with his shooting ability and he is a tough player to stop. He has a scorers mentality and has slowly been expanding his offensive skill set. He is versatile and can play either the PG or SG position, however, he will need to improve his assist to turnover ratio if he is going to play PG in the NBA. He shows the ability to make good passes, but he can get tunnel vision when driving to the hoop and will miss open players. Newman is still young and will improve his decision making, but he tends to force the issue at times. He also needs to improve his consistency/efficiency on a game to game basis. When his shot is not falling he needs to impact the game in other areas such as defensively, rebounding, and passing. Overall, Newman's greatest skill is getting buckets and may be a player worth taking a flier on in the 2nd round.
