Write Up
Melvin Frazier emerged on the draft radar roughly midway through the season after some solid offensive performances coupled with some highlight athletic plays. He's a long (7'1.25" wingspan) and athletic player who gets after it defensively and shows potential offensively. Due to his combination of size/length he projects to have the ability to play multiple positions (SG-PF) in the NBA. Offensively, Frazier shot an efficient 62.3% on 2pt attempts and 38.5% on 3pt attempts, his shot mechanics tend to be a bit awkward which produces inconsistent results, but with NBA training there's legit potential for him to become a 3+D wing at the next level. Frazier plays with a good amount of confidence and effort, which is good in the sense that it enhances his defensive/rebounding abilities, but can become bad when settling for wild/tough shots. Frazier has a solid BBIQ, but could improve his overall court awareness and decision making. Frazier also shows some potential as a ball handler in the open court and in straight line drive situations, but is unreliable as a shot creator/playmaker off the bounce overall. Lastly, Frazier lacks elite level strength for the position, at 198 lbs he's not the skinniest wing prospect, but he will need to pack on muscle in order to handle some of the demands of the NBA. Overall, Frazier has solid role player potential combined with some upside, his combination of athleticism and shooting glimpses are definitely enough to merit a 1st/early 2nd round selection.
