Michael Gbinije
Measurements
6'7" 205 lbs 6'6.5" wingspan 24 years old
Pro comparison
Similar to Allen Crabbe or Evan Turner
Strengths
Michael Gbinije is another transfer player who transferred from Duke to Syracuse after his freshman season. He has a high basketball IQ and is a good team player (coached by the best). He has good size and play-making ability to play positions 1-3 on offense and defense. He is a good shooter and excels off of spot up shots, but has also improved his pull-up ability. He shoots from 3pt range and is good in the mid range as well. Aside from shooting, he is fairly well rounded offensively, he can get to the hoop for layups or floaters, and is a good passer. He and Malachi Richardson did most of the play-making duties for Syracuse. He is a smooth athlete who is good off screens, he has nice hesitation moves and does a nice job staying in control. Gbinije does lack some quickness, which may be a problem when guarded by athletic NBA defenders. His shot release is a bit slow as well, allowing defenders to makeup ground to contest the shot. He has a small wingspan, it's about as long as he is tall. This hurts his ability to finish over taller defenders in the paint and when trying to shoot over longer defenders outside. Lastly, Gbinije is older and will be 24 years old before the draft. He, like McClellan, will need to show NBA teams that they have the ability to step in a contribute in their rookie year. Overall I like Gbinje's game and think that he could also be another solid value pick late in the second round.
