Thon Maker surprised everybody by declaring for this years draft.  He has been a highly touted prospect for a few years thanks to his amazing YouTube highlight reels.  Maker has a lot of potential to either succeed or be a bust and we'll know better where he is projected to be picked after the combine and pre-draft workouts.  Maker is tall and long, combine that with his motor and he has all the makings to be a very solid defender.  He is quick enough laterally to cover players off the pick and roll and is athletic enough to get up and block shots.  Even though he is slender he accepts contact and will bang with guys in the post.  Offensively Maker has a decent outside shot for his size and can be good in spot up and pull up situations.  He can handle the ball very well for his size which allows him to create his own offense, but can get too wild at times and force things.  Maker is a hard worker who competes and tries to improve his game each year.  Maker only started playing organized basketball in 2011 which still makes him incredibly raw.  His feel for the game needs and will improve with more playing time and experience.  He needs to especially improve in his decision making and passing to cut down on turnovers.  He will add strength once he gets to the NBA, but for now he is very slender.  Overall Maker is a prospect with loads of potential and will need to be brought along slowly.  I wish he would go to college to be coached and prepped for the pros a bit more and I'm worried he may never blossom into his full potential.  Either way he is worth a pick in the mid to later part of the first round.
