The Hawks had a solid season where they finished 43-39 and lost to the Wizards in the first round of the playoffs. The core players that made up the 50+ win team a few years ago have either left in free agency or been traded. Many thought Milsap was going to be dealt at the deadline, but they decided to hang onto him and make a playoff push. He was later dealt this offseason to Denver as part of a 3 team sign and trade which netted them Jamal Crawford, Diamond Stone, and a future 1st round pick (Crawford was bought out). The Dwight Howard homecoming didn't go as planned and he was packaged with the 31st pick to the Hornets for Marco Belinelli, Miles Plumlee, and the 41st pick. The core players for the Hawks are now Dennis Schroder, Taurean Prince, and rookie John Collins. I'd be shocked if they won 30+ games or sniffed the playoffs, but I trust Budenholzer to get the most out of his team. They added one of the steals of the draft in John Collins with the 19th pick, he showed his athleticism and versatility in summer league and should play a big role for this team early on in his rookie year. They also drafted Oregon PG/SG Tyler Dorsey and Mega Leks PF Alpha Kaba (more of a long term project, but I like his potential). Overall the team is in a transition mode, new GM Travis Schlenk comes from the coveted Warriors tree and will have to apply his championship knowledge quickly when it comes to reshaping the Hawks.
