The Sacramento Kings are coming off a disappointing season where they failed to make the playoffs and fired another head coach. Vlade Divac, the current GM, is looking to hire another head coach and assistant GM prior to the draft. The Kings have a very talented core of Demarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay, and Willie Cauley-Stein. They signed Rajon Rondo to a 1 year deal last year and it's unclear if he'll be brought back. The Kings barely managed to keep their top 10 protected pick and won the tie breaker with Denver and Milwaukee to get the 8th pick. They have a fairly deep team and could look to add another young piece to their core.
(Updated 7/6/16) The Kings had a puzzling draft where they made great trades to acquire more picks, but then failed to use those picks to fill positional holes on their roster. Drafting big man Georgios Papagiannis with the 13th pick shocked everyone, he may turn into something special, but they already have Demarcus Cousins. Papagiannis seems to be a project pick who may be more for insurance purposes. Malachi Richardson is a boom or bust pickup and I thought Luwawu would've been a nice pickup at 22. Skal Labissiere is great value with the 28th pick and Isaiah Cousins at the 59th pick may be a sleeper in this draft. The Kings also managed to get the rights to Bogdan Bogdanovic from the Suns, which seems to be a nice pickup. Overall I doubt any of these rookies make a significant impact next season and the Kings may have passed on some players that could've plugged some holes. Draft Grade: C-/D+ Team Needs
