A.J. Hammons C
The Mavericks are coming off a successful season where they made the playoffs, but were quickly eliminated by the Thunder. Mark Cuban and company are quick re-builders and do a good job trading and signing players. They have a lot of unrestricted free agents like Zaza Pachulia, David Lee, and Deron Williams, now that he opted out of his contract. Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons both have player options. The Mavericks have lots of cap space available and will need to decide who is worth bringing back. Their rookie SF Justin Anderson played well for them and seems to fit in nicely. Their core of Nowitzki, Parsons, and Matthews is good, but they must find some more players to surround them with. They only have 1 pick (46th) in this years draft, and while it's a later pick, there will be some decent players available.
(Updated 7/16/16) The Mavericks are once again building a solid roster on the fly. Their big free agent acquisition was former Warriors SF Harrison Barnes, who became available due to Durant signing with the Warriors (Parsons signed with Memphis). They've also signed former Kings Seth Curry and Quincy Acy, along with trading for Andrew Bogut. In the draft they selected big man A.J. Hammons from Purdue. Hammons is a big boy who has all the tools and skills to dominate, but never really did in college. At 46, Hammons is a very good value pick who can be a part of the rotation his rookie season.
