The Spurs are coming off another spectacular year, perhaps one of Pop's best years as coach, they finished with a 61-21 record, Kawai continued to emerge as one of the best SF's in the game, and they made it to the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately injuries caught up to them in the playoffs as Tony Parker went down due to a quad injury and Kawai left the Warriors series in Game 1 due to re-aggravated an ankle sprain, it's worth mentioning the Spurs were leading by 23 pts when Kawai went down, they ended up getting swept. However the Spurs once again managed to add and keep good talent during the offseason (kepth Mills, Gasol, and Manu). In the draft they selected skilled combo guard Derrick White and versatile athletic forward Jaron Blossomgame, both of which are high character players who play within themselves. In free agency they signed forward Rudy Gay to a very reasonable 2 year $17 million dollar deal (2nd year is a player option), he's coming off an Achilles tear, but should be ready for training camp. Rudy has the size and skill set to play both the SF and PF positions, which will definitely come in handy when needing to play small. The Spurs will be counting on 2nd year player Dejounte Murray to shore up the PG position behind Patty Mills, at least until Parker returns. Overall the Spurs will continue to be a top seed in the West and hopefully this season we can see a healthy Spurs take on the Warriors in the playoffs.
