The season was pretty much over once Kevin Durant opted to join the Warriors in the offseason of 2016, they went on to a 67-15 record and handily won the Championship in 5 games (over Cleveland). Durant is a perfect fit with the culture of the franchise and has made a historically good team even better. However, with that being said, many of the top teams in the West also decided to go all in instead of laying down, the Thunder added Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, the Rockets added Chris Paul, and the Timberwolves added Jimmy Butler. The Warriors have been the culprit of the craziest NBA offseason ever in terms of star player movement (also the new CBA is to blame). It's hard to believe, but the Warriors got even more talented this offseason through free agency and the draft. SF and member of the "Hamptons 5" Andre Iguodala became a UFA and was highly coveted by teams across the league. The Warriors are/were heavily cash strapped and wanted to save as much money as possible in order to re-sign their star players, but the thought of losing Iguodala was too much and he inked a 3 year $48 million dollar deal to stay in Oakland.
Face of the franchise and 2 time MVP Stephen Curry was also a UFA, and it was a no brainer to sign him to a supermax 5 year $201 million dollar deal (no options). Kevin Durant was an UFA and opted to sign a team friendly deal (2 years $53 million) in order to open more cap space for the team. The Warriors also opted to re-sing Zaza Pachulia, David West, Shaun Livingston, and Javale McGee. With little cash left to work with the Warriors managed to sign former Lakers SF Nick Young and former Kings SF Omri Casspi, both of which can stretch the floor and play multiple positions. The Warriors came into the 2017 NBA draft without a pick, and similarly to the 2016 draft, were able to purchase an early 2nd round pick from the Chicago Bulls (the Bulls waited years to get that pick from Sacramento). With the 38th pick the Warriors selected Oregon PF Jordan Bell, he's a perfect fit for what they do/need out of the PF position. He brings some athleticism, toughness, and defensive prowess to an already amazing team. Overall, Joe Lacob and Bob Myers have continued to do a great job adding talent to their super team and it'd be shocking if they weren't the 2018 champs. Team Needs
